Thermography Study of Electrical Systems
Client electrical installations
- 131 °C
- Highest recorded hot spot
- Detected before failure
- Failure risk
Challenge
The brief
Loose terminations and overloaded components fail without warning, causing fire risk and unplanned outages that routine visual inspection does not catch.
Assessment
What we did
Infrared thermography was performed on live electrical panels, MCCBs, busbars, cable terminations and switchgear, with camera and thermal images recorded side by side for each observation.
Findings
What the data showed
- Localised overheating at terminations and joints requiring immediate attention
- Component-level temperature rise indicating loading or contact resistance issues
Recommendations
What we recommended
- Prioritised corrective action on identified hot spots
- Torque and contact resistance checks during planned shutdown
- Periodic thermography as part of the electrical maintenance regime
